spider on web seen through a window

It’s official! We’ve moved.  Following the blog name change, the ramblings of this lady can now be found at artlovescraft.com.  Hope you all come over to check it out!

Basically, it’s exactly like this site, only at a new address.  I know, it seems like I’m just trying to be difficult, but really I’m not.  This li’l blog needed its own domain name to really stretch its wings, you know?  Wanna see what stretched blog wings look like? You’ll have to come by the new site and see!

tiny christmas advent socks

Because I ALWAYS like to have more than one knitting project on the go, I’ve been casting on these mini socks almost daily. I am now on sock three. I love this project.  LOVE IT.

Would you like to know why I love it so much? Ok, I will tell you.  Because you can knit a tiny sock in a day.  Even a day full of laundry and family and house work and errands and chores.  It really doesn’t take long to knit a mini sock at all.  And, full disclosure, I don’t really take housework all that seriously, so it doesn’t much get in the way of my knitting. Also? A wee tiny sock is a very good combination of easy brainless knitting (the main foot and ankle bits) and some more interesting bits of knitting, turning the heel and shaping to the toe.

I plan on making thirty-one of them. We have all seen the tiny sock advent calender idea around the crafty blogosphere? Only I want our calender to count us down all the way to the new year.  There will be extra big socks on the twenty-fifth because we do stockings around here, but then the little socks will continue on until January.

And yes I am holiday jumping.  Halloween? Not for me. Straight to the winter holidays, please!

One hour bread

Oh, I had my doubts.  One hour bread? No kneading?  I was all, yeaaaaaah riiiiight.  But friends? It’s true.

The recipe is from this post at Simple Green Frugal Co-op, and I think I linked to the Co-op site originally from the Soule Mama blog… pretty sure about that.

So the bread works! It’s great! And it really is that quick. From pulling the flour out of the cupboard, to pulling the bread out of the oven: one hour. Now, I’m no bread rookie. My mama taught to bake bread as a kid, and I’ve made plenty of bread as an adult. I even worked as a baker for a bit, at a bakery where bread was their THING. And I had no idea it was possible to make bread in one hour at home. None at all. I love learning new things, don’t you? It’s like, all of a sudden, new baking possibilities open! Thanks Simple Green Frugal Co-op.

So the bread is not a light bread, like your regular french loaf. It is thick and dense and moist, but in a really good way. This bread would be the perfect thing to eat with a hearty soup. You could really pile the soup up on top of it, if you know what I mean. I will definitely be making it again, and I can’t wait to try it tomorrow morning as toast!

In other news, I am thinking about getting a fanny pack. More on that tomorrow.

hand knit hermit crab shell from hansigurumi pattern

hermit crab knitting pattern - completed shell

I have never knit a spiral shape before, and let me tell you, it comes together like magic!  It was so cool.  So you’re knitting along, following the instructions, and because I had my knitting all spread out over double pointed needles, I really couldn’t see what was happening.  Then, you just seam it up with kitchener stitch and BAM! the spiral takes shape!

I can’t be sure, because I would never dream of attempting to write a spiral knitting pattern, but it strikes me as the kind of thing that would use a lot of math.  All I can say is, I’m glad someone else did it, because this pattern is turning out to be pretty darn cool.

My earlier posts about this project are here and here, and I purchased the pattern from right over here.

fabric and thread

So the red and white fabric is what I will be cutting up to make the Ellinor blouse from BurdaStyle, and the blue fabric is a cotton-blend stretch, whose future is still a little uncertain.  Could a nice top be made from stretchy blue rib? hmmm, will think on that…

In small, nit picky, photography complaints, I wish that I had turned the red spool of thread so that the top was showing rather than the ugly bar code on the bottom.  (I did warn you that I was nit picking…)

And the name change! I wanted to move this blog over to its own domain, and the old name (Morning Toast) was already taken.  I didn’t visit the website that is using the old name because I am totally paranoid that just visiting random internet sites will either (a) bring up some random internet image that is so freaky my eyes burst into flames and I never recover, or (b) infect my computer with malicious software viruses from which it will never recover.  In any case, the name Art loves Craft was available, and felt fitting.

So Art loves Craft it is!  I’m going to be moving the site over to the new domain shortly, but I’ll keep you posted on that.  In other news, I had a somewhat productive knitting weekend, and will be sharing more about that shortly.  I think it’s the fall chill in the air that really got those little sticks clicking…
